I would have been quite happy to steal a point on the road against the Detroit Redwings, Alex Burrrows, and the rest of the team had a different idea. Goals by Jannik Hansen ( his first nhl goal), Ryan Kesler, Mason Raymond and the OT winner Alex Burrows brought the Canucks game back on track. It sounded like it was an entertaining game. I listened as much as i could, while being at work. looking forward to watching the hilights.

this seemed to be more like my Canucks of the first two games. Gone were the apparitions that showed up against the Capitals. Not that the Canucks played a perfect game.... I'd still like to see more from the second line, ... but two points on the road, against Detroit, I'm almost impressed !!!

i'll give you three guesses who the boys were? and it wasn't the Washington Capitals. Its no time to panic, not yet...... It is after all, only game three, but........... i really don't know what to say about this game. The Canucks - my Canucks were just plain out classed. They looked and played like they were tired.
on a brighter note, we scored our one goal on the power play, and Ovechkin was kept off the score sheet.
I don't expect them to win 82 games, but a little more effort would be appreciated. Lets hope their effort, and game improves before they face Detroit on thursday.

I sort of go blind sided by this news when I arrived to work this afternoon. I guess you could say it sort of ruined my day. Alls that kept repeating through my head for the rest of the night was.... he's so young, so young, too young to die.

So much ahead of him. A very promising NHL Career, his whole life.... 21 years old. Such a shame.

I can only imagine what his family and friends must be going through right now. As a Canucks fan, I am pretty shocked and still can hardly believe it. And I just knew him as a Vancouver Canuck.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends as they struggle to get through this difficult time.

well, it appears i didn't miss much in with the canucks the past two weeks, when i was on holidays. A win, a couple lossees, nothing to write home about. I'm back now, and hopefully the canucks start winning at home, and winning on a more regular basis. Its almost getting painful now........

I did not watch this game, I did not listen to this game, i just tuned in to see the score at the end of the game. It sounded like it was a semi good game up until the third period, when for whatever reason, the Canucks let up, or San Jose just played that much harder. I haven't even read the recap, and its late and I've been up since 430 this morning. So I must get some sleep. We'll get the two points next time. We hope. Go Canucks !

Hockey Night in Canada : CBC is streaming the game online. Not superb quality, but i can't complain.

The first period - Cowan and Stortini? (sp) drop the gloves seconds after the opening faceoff. I'd say it was a draw, with Stortini, ending up on top of Cowan. ho hum first period, with a spark of excitement when Brendan Morrison scored on a feed from Markus Naslund, in the last minute of the first period. Finally the Canucks are utilizing the last minute of the period, instead of letting their opponents utilize it.

What an awesome powerplay, the oilers weren't able to leave their zone at all. 2 minutes and 20 seconds after the penalty is called, Daniel Sedin scores. 2-0 Canucks. What determination!

Daniel Sedin again beats Dwayne Roloson 3-0 Canucks - perhaps a controversial goal, it did appear that Naslund was impeding Roloson, but the on site officials didn't think so so hey i'm not complaining! :D The Broadcasters had a big discussion about this, and came to the conclusion that it was Roloson, being impeded by his own player, who tripped Naslund. So it was a good call by the officials.

Mike Weaver seems to be having a pretty decent game so far.

Jeff Cowan apparently suffered a leg injury in his fight in the first period. Has not returned to the game.

Before the game tonight I found out what Jesse Boulerice would have to pay for the cross check to the face of Kesler from the previous game. 25 games, I personally think it should have been more. He broke his stick on kesler's face - seriously, these head shots are getting out of control.

A much better effort to start this game tonight. The Canucks jumped out to a 2-0 lead, on goals by Henrik Sedin, and Rick Rypien. Well, now thats looking like a good call up now isn' t it?? They led 2-0 until the waning seconds of the first period, when Sheldon Souray scored to put the Oilers on the board. Starting the second period - the canucks take a penalty, i think. I had gone out to get myself some dinner :D and got back in my car to hear ALEX BURROWS score shorthanded. 3-1 Canucks. Cue goaltending change for Edmonton. Welcome to the game Birthday boy Dwayne Roloson.

The canucks have yet to test roloson - Luongo just ROBBED Steve Staios. WIDE OPEN NET, but somehow Luongo got back with his glove - WOW

Once again, the Canucks give up a goal on the power play in the latter part of the second period to Raffi Torres. ( i like saying his name - Raffi Torres- okay i'm a nerd) oh wait, Morrison just scored. wow I wish I was watching this game. two shots in the period, two goals. Go figure.

End of the second, score 4-2 Canucks............ 4 shots in the period for the Canucks, 2 goals. not bad odds.

The third period - would the Canucks have enough to bring it on home, and gain a valuable two points?? Thank goodness for Luongo - i think so far, that's the difference in this game. We have the goaltending, the Oilers don't.

What a hum drum third period so far. The Canucks have taken a penalty, killed a penalty, not to much happening right now. The Canucks doing a good job keeping the Oilers off the scoreboard. Willie Mitchell went into this game a -3, and if the game ended right now, he'd be a +1. That's the Willie Mitchell, we know and love. Whats up with Bieksa this season? I'm wondering if he is not as healthy as he would like as all to believe. Four games into the season, he definitely isn't the Bieksa of last season. Makes me suspicious. But if he is hurting, why not sit him? wouldn't playing just make it worse? Maybe there is nothing wrong, maybe he's just taking time to find his feet this season.

The Canucks really need to work on their faceoffs. The Oilers are just killing them in the faceoffs tonight.

Oilers coming on right now - <wince> You know, I'm quite tired of hearing the name Raffi Torres - it seems he's the only Oiler playing hard tonight. But then he generally does have good games against the Canucks.

On the first visit to Vancouver by the flyers in over 6 years, they reminded me, why I don't like the flyers coming to town. Where was the desire, the effort, the grit, the determination ....... where was my team from last year? Our stellar defence? yeah that was non existent, our top notch goaltending, on which all our hopes rest. yeah i couldn't find it either. Granted I wasn't paying the strictest attention to the game, i was at work, but i'm fairly certain i didn't miss anything. Except maybe the hit to the head of kesler by Jesse Boulerice.

“Obviously he was out to get me, and he got me,” said Kesler, who moments earlier threw a big hit along the end boards on the forecheck.
“I'm just lucky my jaw isn't broken, hopefully it's not fractured. Obviously it's a dirty play and you don't like to see that happen to anyone. ... It shouldn't be in the game."

I'm just chalking this one up in the forgetable category. Lets hope this is rock bottom, and its only up hill from here. Pretty painful, but I'm trying to remind myself we are only three games into the season. A bright spot - ( grasping at straws here) our powerplay, isn't too bad, although that 5 on 3 power play we had in the latter stages of the third period, when we somehow managed to allow the Flyers to score 3 on 5 - yeah not gonna go there.

The Canucks exhibited a little more effort in this game tonight, but didn't really start taking the play to the Flames till the second period. The Flames scored first within the opening 3 minutes of the first period. I was thinking, oh no, not again.

After the Flames opened the scoring, the Canucks settled down mostly, and once the second period came, the Canucks controlled the play and started scoring. Helped in part by some powerplays. Mattias Ohlund opened the scoring for the Canucks to tie the game at 1. Markus Naslund, and Ryan Shannon scored on powerplays shortly thereafter. Heading into the third it was 3-1 Canucks. They had the game in the bag, one would think. Apparently they thought so as well. Soon, it was 3-2 Canucks, and then on a questionable call on Naslund, The Flames scored to tie the game at 3. The Canucks got a powerplay, and should have scored, and would have scored if it was not for Dion Phaneuf's handy dandy stick on the goal line, it would have been Canucks 4, Flames 3, it was not to be, at that point anyway. Frantic action the last few minutes, the Canucks down in the Calgary zone, banging away, but the game is headed to sudden death. Matt Cooke had a great chance to end the game in regulation, but Kiprusoff was there to save the day for the Flames. Final shots 27 for the Flames 26 for the Canucks. Hard to believe that going into the third period the Canucks had a 3-1 lead.

Overtime begins, Canucks called for too many men on the ice - unbelievable !!!!

Alex Burrows had a shorthanded breakaway, but was stopped by Kiprosoff. Wouldn't that have been a 'sweet' ending. Canucks manage to kill the Flames Powerplay. Good job boys.

Last minute of overtime - will we see our first shootout? Naslund draws a penalty, with 13 seconds left in the overtime period. Is it enough time to score?

YES, it was enough time to score, With 5 seconds left in the overtime period, the Canucks on the powerplay, Daniel Sedin scored and the Canucks win 4-3.

The home opener, has come and gone. I must say, this night did not transpire quite the way I hoped it would. I was lucky enough to have tickets to the game, and I must say I was extremely disappointed with the first period, and the end result, not quite what I pictured, when the Canucks seasons hopes were bright and undiminished.

Talk about being brought back down to earth. This game definitely did that. Don't get me wrong, i'm not pushing the panic button - it is only the first game - maybe the team had the home opener jitters, Perhaps Mason Raymond, and Ryan Shannon, were nervous playing in the NHL at home in the first game of the season. Maybe - maybe - maybe. It doesn't really matter, I dont want to hear excuses do you?

Through out the whole game, one of the only players to stand out - for me anyway, was Ryan Kesler. And only because of his speed. The other players stood out for the wrong reasons, Ryan Shannon, how many gaping empty nets are gonna be there for you? How could you miss? I could have scored, and I dont even skate very good. Naslund, How many 'nudges' will you throw, before you remember what a good 'check' is? I could have thrown heavier checks than you did tonight. Sedins? please dont start playing pretty yet - at least not until we have the lead anyway - SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT - Morrison, thank you for scoring, at least it wasn't a shutout.............

Now i get to face the San Jose fans at work, yikes, not looking forward to facing them, after all my talk before the game......

I'm a little frustrated, but come tommorrow morning, all will be well, and i'll be ready to face the world, and the Flames head on.

in just under a week, the Canucks 2007/08 season will be underway. Here we sit, nearing the end of September, well i guess it is the end of september, awaiting the start of the new season. What will this new season be like ......... I wonder. What will this team be like ....... I wonder.

Here's hoping somewhere between now and then, we manage to recover from all our injuries, Mason Raymond somehow makes the team, Naslund finds his scoring touch, and Luongo stops threatening to quit, if they enlarge the nets.

The new uniforms unveiled. This is the best shot i could get, before i had to leave for work. Basically they are the blue and green, with a black and white logo, and the addition of vancouver over top of the logo. My first impressions I like it, i love the colors, they look good. We shall see if I continue to think so! :D

Canucks Re-sign Trevor Linden

Earlier, than last season, but still too late for my liking, but the end result i'm happy with. Trevor Linden is to remain a Canucks for another season. This brightened my day considerably!!

I was just getting ready to leave work when I decided to quickly log in to Canucks.com to see if anything had happened. I was ecstatic to see that finally, the Canucks had done the 'right' thing, and signed this guy. Some will say that he's a has been, but i dont know who could say that after looking at how he played in the playoffs. He still has a lot of offer, and apparently Dave Nonis, and Alain Vigneault agree.

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed centre Ryan Kesler to a three year deal. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kesler, 22, appeared in 48 games for the Canucks last season, recording 16 points (6-10-16) and 40 penalty minutes. He missed the last 34 games of the regular season due to a hip injury.

The former first round draft pick made his NHL Playoff debut in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarter-Final series against the Dallas Stars on April 11, 2007, registering two shots and logging 27:51 of ice-time before suffering a season-ending hand injury. In 158 career games with the Canucks, Kesler has tallied 18 goals, 26 assists (18-26-44) and 135 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-2, 205 pound native of Livonia, Michigan has experienced success on the international stage, most recently playing for Team USA at the 2006 IIHF World Hockey Championships in Latvia. Kesler scored the game-tying goal in the Final at the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championship in Helsinki to help win the gold medal for the U.S. He was also a member of the 2002 squad that captured the IIHF World Under-18 Championship. Kesler received the Best Player Award at the conclusion of the tournament.

Kesler was selected in the first round, 23rd overall by the Canucks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Larscheid to return !!!!

Well it seems that reports that Larscheid to retire after the end of this past season are wrong. Wrong or Larscheid was convinced to change his mind.

Right now - One more year seems to be the recurring extension.

I'm pretty thrilled about this. The radio broadcasts just wouldn't be the same without Tom Larscheid, and his Larscheidisms.

I'm looking forward to next season for another reason now !

The Canucks capped a 105-point season and a Northwest title with a heart-pounding seven game series win over the Stars. Despite taking the Ducks to OT four times in the conference semi-finals, the Canucks fel l just shy of the third round. Still, there's pl enty to smile about.

Well, its over.

Roberto Luongo lying prone on the ice, after Neidermayer scored to end the game and the series said it all. This guy played his heart out in this game. Its too bad his teammates for one reason or another couldn't do the same.

There are the general excuses, flu, illness, injuries, fatigue. The Canucks were vastly outplayed in this game. Outshot 63-27 or something crazy like that. They had no business even bringing this game to Overtime. Without Luongo back there - yikes this game would have been over half way thru the first period. Granted, it was a mental lapse of a few seconds by Luongo that allowed the winner to go in, no blame is being shovelled his way from me thats for sure !!! I guess when it comes right down to it, the Canucks lost to the better team, and not even having an amazing goaltender in net for you can change that.

how scary was it to see Sabourin start overtime? Nothing against Sabourin, he's a good goalie, but - he's not Luongo!

I'm kind of at a loss for words. I'm sad that the canucks playoffs are over, but i never expected them to get this far. They kept playing, and somehow finding ways to win. There is good things in store for this team !!

Listening to the radio on the way home from work this afternoon. Was interesting to say the least. We shouldn't be looking for a moral victory in all this - or say they were saying? I wouldn't say I"m looking for a moral victory, it totally sucks that they lost, but i'm trying to dwell on the positives right now.

Overall, I'd say given the expectations at the beginning of the season - this season was indeed a success, and the off season should prove to be interesting !

It was going so well there for a while. Naslund opened the scoring with his 3rd goal in as many games, Morrison bumped the slump and scored as well. It was 2-0 going into the third. Then, I dont know what happened ........

Anaheim outworked, outhustled, and got a few lucky bounces and before I knew it, it was tied at 2 and headed to Overtime. Travis Moehn was the hero of the moment, and a recipient of a gift wrapped with a pretty bow, lucky bounce that ended the game.

Ducks beat Canucks again 3-2 overtime final. The Canucks are in tough now. Trailing the series 3 games to one, and game 5 in Anaheim on thursday night. It's gonna be tough for them, but I'm not counting them out yet.

The Canucks had every oppurtunity to win this one. If only they could make the most of their powerplays. We did manage to score one goal on the Powerplay, so there is still Hope. Naslund potted a garbage goal to tie the game at one. The Canucks never led this game, always trailed, but i give them kudos for coming back to tie it up every period. If they had had a few extra seconds in the game, they might have tied it up again.

Perry Powers Ducks past the Canucks this night though. Luongo made some good saves tonight, but he dropped the ball on the first goal. Which is okay - Naslund scored on the powerplay to even it at 1. The Second anaheim goal was scored on a Markus Naslund Penalty - gee thanks Naslund. If you could only score as often as you take penalities, we would be in good shape. Daniel Sedin bailed us out - yes a Sedin scoring in the series. But on a delay of game penalty on Burrows for clearing the puck over the glass, Perry wasted no time in making the Canucks pay. I hate that penalty call. The Canucks never gave up, but they just couldn't beat Giguere.

SCENE & HEARD: It will be awhile before Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco has dinner again at Umberto Menghi's signature eatery, Il Giardino on Hornby Street. Not that Turco has anything against the food or service at the charming Tuscan-style villa. He loves the place. But as Turco's superstitions go, forget it.

Turco picked up the tab for eight of his teammates last Sunday on the eve of Game 7 in the Canucks-Dallas playoff series. Funny thing is, Il Giardino isn't open Sundays. But Turco insisted. He had wined and dined the same eight teammates earlier in the week and when the Stars won Game 5 the next night at GM Place, Turco wasn't taking no for an answer prior to Game 7. The Dallas players would sit in the same seats, order the same meal and drink the same wine.

After several desperate calls from Turco, the chef and two senior staff members agreed to open the restaurant for his private sitting. All in, it would cost Turco close to $10,000 to have the lights turned on, the grills fired up and the tab delivered for the nine hearty diners.

Dallas, of course, lost 4-1 the next night and Turco to this day is unaware that there was a Canucks souvenir collectible coin -- Roberto Luongo edition -- securely taped to the bottom of his chair. Turco should have known. As the team's rallying cry goes: "We are all Canucks".

The best thing about the Canucks defeating the Ducks on a Friday night is
there won't be an overload of negative press to have to suffer through on
Saturday morning.

The Vancouver Sun will have their weekend edition, but at least the beat
reporters won't be able to focus on trying to destroy the spirit of Canuck
Nation like they did after the Canucks dropped game one on Wednesday
night.

Most scribes from The Vancouver Sun and The Province, and almost
every other talking head on television broadcasts from across the
country said you could stick a fork in the Canucks - they were done
like dinner against a supposedly quicker, bigger and more talented
Ducks squad.

Thanks to the mainstream media, the pulse of this city during the
last two days has been nothing short of listless and lethargic.
Thank goodness the Canucks were on the road in Anaheim
and didn't have to read what the rest of us were exposed to.

That's assuming the Canucks players read the hometown papers
at all. I know if I was a player, the only use I'd have for the local
papers is for housebreaking my piddly puppy.

Our guys really got fired up by everything that was being said
about the big, bad Ducks and how they were going to stomp all
over us, said head coach Alain Vigneault after Friday night's
2-1 OT victory. Nobody gave us a chance because we have a
depleted line-up.

Being a newspaper beat reporter covering a local sports team
must be a difficult gig because maintaining a fresh positive spin
doesn't sell copies nearly as well as dragging the Canucks
through the dirt does.

Can you imagine if the Sun or Province wrote about how the
Canucks were blown out in game one, but still managed to
generate more scoring chances against the Ducks in one game
than they did in one week versus the stingy Dallas Stars?

Or how the Canucks were still riding the emotional wave of
their game seven victory over Dallas less than 48 hours
earlier but have no fear, the hometown boys will regain
their focus and get back to playing Canucks hockey in
game two? It would never happen. At least the Canuck players and
coaches realized what the media didn't.

After the first game, we said to ourselves there's opportunity
there, we just have to find them and make plays, said
Trevor Linden, who assisted on the OT game winner. �It
was nice to get it done tonight. We came out of game seven
and we didn't seem to have the edge to carry us through.

Their speed kind of overwhelmed us a little bit and we
were much better at that tonight - we handled it better.
We understood just what it's going to take.

I'm not sure why, but it's much easier to be a defeatist
and write the Canucks off than it is to instill optimism in
a hockey crazed city. I know it's not the job of beat
reporters to lift the spirits of Canucks fans, but I'm
pretty sure their job isn't to crush spirits either.

We knew that we could play better, said Vigneault
of the game one loss. There was a lot of talk that
we were overmatched and they were a much
better team than we were. It seemed that after
that first game the series was already over with.

Based on the negative reporting in this series, it's
no wonder some players say they don't bother
reading the papers. It's tough enough trying to
win a seven game series on the ice.

Canucks sink Ducks to even series Roberto Luongo with 49 saves tonight. Helped out on a few of those shots by two posts. Overall, I felt that the Canucks played great throughout the game. Probably their best game of the playoffs so far.

Naslund opened the scoring, on a solo effort, that was vintage Naslund. 1-0 Canucks. Anaheim got helped out by a few powerplays, and just as one had expired they scored. Luongo made a great glove save, but couldn't control the rebound, and Moen shovelled it in. TIE GAME.

Thats how it stood going into the third, and that's how it stood going into Overtime. And thats how it stood going into the second overtime. Who would be the hero?? Yankee Mike called it, just a few minutes before the goal was scored. Cowan got the puck from Linden, and somehow, someway managed to squeeze it in past Giguere. Canucks win 2-1.

DOUBLE OVERTIME Strikes again. Go Canucks Go !!!!

Taylor Pyatt was a monster out there winning puck battles against the boards, throwing his weight around. Jan Bulis - wow - slipping checks, maintaining control of the puck. Where was this bulis through out the regular season. YOu know what? I dont even care. Just Enjoying this Bulis for as long as possible. I thought Brendan Morrison was on fire out there, for a few shifts, his line really controlled the play, and had some good chances! What can I say about Roberto Luongo that hasn't already been said? Lukas Krajicek, and Brent Sopel, with the increased icetime, played really well. Krajicek really impressed me tonight. Naslund, scored a goal, but took at least 3 or 4 penalities. He has to work on that, but he's scoring, and thats what we pay him the big bucks for. Alex Burrows, was at his pesty best - keep up the good work Burrows !!

Willie Mitchell left the game in the first period and didn't return for a few shifts. After the game Alain Vigneault was asked what the problem was and his reply ? - " Flu - like Skate syndrome" I take that as a problem with his skate ........ We can't afford to lose Mitchell as well. He used his long stick again to get the puck off the goal line. Both Salo, and Bieksa still out. Hopefully we get them back for Game 3 on Sunday.

Game One

, wasn't exactly what I had in mind as a good way to start the semi finals. The Canucks started off well, Cowan got the first goal - but after that, it was all Anaheim. The Canucks started the parade to the penalty box, and at times seemed like they were fighting for a spot in the penalty box instead of fighting to win a hockey game.

It didn't help that they were missing two of their top defenseman, in Salo, and Bieksa, and finishing off a hard fought game 7 just a mere 2 nights ago, probably didn't help either. I'm not willing to pass judgment, until after the next game.

McDonald, and the Ducks were just too much for the Canucks tonight.

The Canucks need to get their powerplay working, and between now and friday let's hope Bieksa, and Salo recover from their "FLU"

Unbelievable !!! Captain Canuck was the difference

Captain Canuck, and Roberto Luongo. Going into this game - I must admit, I was worried. After listening to the radio all day, and hearing everyone be so down on the Canucks, i thought it would take a miracle for them to win this game. I dont know if they found the miracle, or if they just somehow managed to find a way. Either way, I'm not complaining. !!!

The Canucks did not help themselves by taking a penalty early in the first period, but they managed to kill it. It was typical Canucks, Stars hockey - kinda wait and see approach !! Dallas scored first, I was worried. End of the first period, Canucks trailing 1-0. Knowing how Dallas plays with the lead, I was stressed going into the second.

The second period, was unbelievable, the turnaround on the Canucks team. They took control of the game and never looked back. Outshooting the Stars , and finally capitalizing on their powerplay. Somehow, someway Henrik Sedin was all alone in front of Turco, Bingo, Bango a pass from Daniel, the game is tied. A beauty of a goal, and just what the fans at GM Place needed to boost the noise !! Going into the Third, the Canucks maintained their strong play. Getting alot of help from some key powerplays at certain points in the game. At one point, even a 5 on 3 advantage. In all this Luongo, made some key saves keeping the game tied, until his team could once again capitalize on the POwerplay. This time, it was Captain Canuck, Trevor Linden who tipped a Mattias Ohlund slapshot past Marty Turco, for what turned out to be the game winner. Two empty net goals, by Pyatt, and Smolinski iced the victory for the canucks. For the first time in years, the Canucks advance past the first round, and are headed to the Semi Finals versus Anaheim. Alain Vigneault in his first year as Head coach of the Canucks, has done what Marc Crawford in his years with the Canucks could not do - win a playoff round. For the first time since 1995, the Canucks have advanced to the second round.

So here's to you, Dallas homers , I hate to break it to you, but YOU WERE WRONG !!!! The Canucks advance, and the Stars go home. Turco played great, but when it came down to it, he was just no match for CAPTAIN CANUCK.

The Vancouver Canucks let a golden oppurtunity slip through their hands. Please don't let this be shades of the past where we let a 3-1 series lead get away and turn into a 4-3 series loss.

I couldn't even tell you much about this game if I wanted to. I was being lulled to sleep by sheer boredom. It was typical Dallas/Canucks game. No one wanting to make that first mistake - a few good chances on both sides. Turco, and Luongo both played sensational. Seriously, do we need to give Turco anymore confidence? two shutouts in this series for him now. :( The winning goal was scored on the powerplay, a too many men on the ice penalty by the Canucks. I just knew that was gonna rear its ugly head and bite them in the butt.

The key to the next game, or one of the keys - CANUCKS NEED A POWERPLAY GOAL!! Dallas is winning that so far this series. I think they have 3 powerplay goals to the Canucks 1 I believel.

I don't even know where to begin with this one. I had to work, so I was pretty disappointed about that. Once again, CBC was kind enough to stream this game online so I was able to see most of it.

Which team would show up for this game? I had my answer right from the get go tonight. It was the team that worked hard for 60 minutes. First period was pretty straightforward for a Dallas Canucks Game, except for the two man advantage the Canucks had to kill for 1 minute and 54 seconds. And, kill it they did !!!

The second period was more of the same.

Through out the first two periods - There were a few players who jumped out at me.

*Jan Bulis - where was this guy all season?
*Jannick Hansen - he continues to impress with his speed, his skating and his smart plays with the puck
*Willie Mitchell - he's having a great series so far, strong on the puck, good hitting. He levelled Nagy. Although that was more a result of how nagy hit the boards than anything else. But, I"ll take it.

* Luongo - what can i say about Luongo, that hasn't already been said

The third period - tied 0-0. Who would make the first mistake? As it turns out it was Dallas. Smolinski shot wide, drawing Turco out of position, and he couldn't scramble back in time to recover for Ohlund recovering the puck from the end boards and slapping it home. 1-0 Canucks. The Stars wouldn't go away so easy though. Three minutes later, on a halfhearted attempt by Naslund to clear the puck, the Stars solved Luongo. 1-1 game, with about 8 minutes to go in the 3rd. Was this game destined for Overtime? 2 minutes later, we had our answer. Trevor Linden scored a vintage goal to put the Canucks up on top. with about 6 minutes left to go. Would they be able to hang on for the win?

If Luongo and Willie Mitchell have anything to say about it - you better believe they'll hang on for the win! The Stars started coming, and coming and coming. Luongo couldn't be beat. WIth about 2 minutes left, the Stars pulled Turco. 6 on 5 time slipping away on the Stars. They shot, it beat Luongo ......... It didn't beat Mitchell though. Using his long reach, or his long stick, I"m not sure what it was, he pulled that puck off the goal line.

While Luongo will get most of the credit for Vancouver's win, it was Mitchell who prevented Dallas from getting the equalizer with less than three minutes remaining.

Stars centre Mike Ribeiro wired a shot that trickled through the legs of Luongo, but Mitchell instinctively cleared the puck away before it could completely slide past the goal-line.

Officials reviewed the play but maintained the puck did not cross the line.

"I would have gone nuts if it was called a goal," Mitchell said.

Added Linden: "Willie came to the bench and said it wasn't in. You always ask the guy who made the play. He's not going to lie to you."

Disaster averted. Canucks clear, aim for the empty net, miss. Time slipping away - going, going, going, GONE.

Canucks have won it ! They have won game 4. They take a 3-1 series lead, and a chance to win the series at home on THURSDAY.

Another game that Luongo kept them in it, until they could get going. After Stu Barnes scored on a deflection for Dallas, the Canucks seemed to wake up and realize there was a game to be won here. The last half of the game, the Canucks really took it to the Stars, and in the third were rewarded by a goal. Jan Bulis, with assists by Jannick Hansen and Brendan Morrison tied the game at 1. The Canucks had loads of energy in the 3rd, outshooting the stars, and having a few good scoring chances. Turco played well.

Overtime - I was thinking to myself, "was this gonna be another marathon?" Luckily, it wasn't. just under 8 minutes in, Taylor Pyatt, scored his first NHL Playoff goal, with assists by Bryan Smolinski, and Trevor Linden, and the Canucks win it 2-1.

It will be interesting to see which line starts game 4. Will Naslund be playing with the Sedins. They all by themselves swung the momentum their way when Vigneault started juggling lines. The other lines, picked up on it, and thus bulis scored, and Pyatt ended it in OT.

What can I say? I'm extremely disappointed in this result. A loss, I think I can handle, but to be shutout at home in the playoffs. It embarrasses me. Although why I have anything to be embarrassed about I dont know.

The stars scored in the first minute, of both the first and second periods. And that's all she wrote for the Canucks. They were badly out played in the first half of the first, they started sort of playing near the end of the first, and the second. THere were a few spurts of brilliance here and there, but they couldn't solve TURCO.

The play of Jannick Hansen, was promising. If he can keep that up, lots of energy and smart plays tonight. He didn't hurt them at all. Jan Bulis was really noticeable. I was impressed with both these players. Naslund was having a good game - mostly anyway. He was hitting, and thats sort of unusual for him.

Let's just say i was real disappointed with the all round effort. It didn't help that Dallas got on the board right away. The Canucks were chasing right from the get go. Really, I shouldn't be surprised. The Canucks seem to make a habit of having a let down game after an emotional victory. I'd have to say winning game one in quadruple Overtime is about as emotional as it can get in the sport of hockey.

Game 3 on Sunday in Dallas. Perhaps Matt Cooke, and Alexandre Burrows will be back? We miss their energy. I expect a better effort out of them on Sunday, but they'll be in tough. The ice will probably be really bad as there is a basketball game, or concert just a few short hours before the hockey game

Due to the extremely lengthy game - i will not be blogging about it until tommmorrow after work. Its twenty to 1 and I have to leave for work in 4.5 hours.

CANUCKS WIN IN QUADRUPLE OVERTIME 5-4

I still cannot believe the results of this game. The game as I'm sure you all know by now went to a fourth overtime period. It wasn't until late in the fourth overtime period that the Canucks were finally able to capitalize.

What a game !!! So much for the low scoring games we were used to. ALthough I think that both teams will play more defensively in the games to come. The Canucks had goals from Daniel Sedin, Mattias Ohlund, Markus Naslund, and Bryan Smolinski. Henrik Sedin scored the game winner at 18:06 of the Fourth Overtime Period.

Markus Naslund, the Twins, and Jan Bulis had huge games. They were on fire. And strange as it may seem - the twins seemed to get better as the game went on. Cowan, was great in the Overtime periods

Unfortunately the Canucks lost both Matt Cooke, and Alex Burrows to injury. Cooke to a groin strain, and Alex Burrows to a slight concussion. Also, Kesler who was playing in his first game back since he went on injured reserve is out 4-5 weeks with a broken finger. Man, you gotta feel for the guy ! He played last night, and did not hurt the Canucks at all. Its too bad. THe Canucks have now called up two players from the Moose.

Roberto Luongo - What can i say here. Sure he wasn't stellar in regulation, but neither was Turco. Sure A two goal lead disintegrated in the third in less than 6 minutes. It was his first playoff game, and he acquitted himself admireably. Facing 76 shots in that marathon of a game. Stopping 72 of 76 shots - this guy will not stop breaking franchise records.

well that ends the regular season. A record breaking season for the Canucks, a successful season. A season in which many predicted the Canucks to miss the playoffs. And here we are, headed to the Playoffs, first in our division, and third in the conference. No matter how well they do in the Playoffs, I'm happy with the success of the team so far. Of course anything less than a stanley cup and I"ll be disappointed, but over all I'm happy with what they accomplished.

I'M LOVING IT ! San Jose Sharks were gamers today. It was certainly an entertaining game. The Canucks were up 2-0 5 minutes into the first on goals by Matt Cooke, and Taylor Pyatt. San Jose never gave up though. Helped greatly by two five on 3's they stormed back in the second to tie the game. Tie game going into the third - Bieksa was the hero, scoring on the powerplay. with 10 minutes or so left in the game. It was a tense 10 minutes. Thornton, was once again carrying the team - and totally levelled Matt Cooke with a hit on the end boards, which ended up being a boarding penalty. It looked painful. 30 seconds left in the game - San Jose ties the game 3-3. I was a little distraught. Overtime. This could happen I though, the Canucks have a good overtime record. They really need to win. would they be able to? Thanks in large part to Joe Thornton, who took a penalty in the Overtime, they did. Mattias Ohlund scored 34 seconds or so into the extra period, the Canucks clinch the northwest division, and appears that the will play Dallas in the opening round

With this being the last Canucks home game of the 2006/2007 season the Canucks Player Awards were announced. Not Surprisingly Roberto Luongo walked away with the most honours. What a shocker!

Once again, the Canucks make it difficult on themselves, leaving it to the last two games to clinch the division. The Canucks need one more victory out of their last two games, or a Minnesota loss. We really don't want to depend on Minnesota to lose. They haven't been doing alot of that lately. Also, Minnesota has one game left - against St Louis. Taking a look at the Standings Minnesota is one point behind us with one game left.

So it comes down to San Jose, or Phoenix. We need at least one more win, I believe they can do it, but I dont know if I want to listen to them do it. I love this team, but they drive me crazy !!!!!!!!

Tonight, it was Milan Hejduk, who scored all three goals for his Colorado Avalanche, and kept their slim playoff hopes alive. Sami Salo scored for the Canucks. Luongo made some huge stops, but Milan Hejduk was just too much for the canucks tonight. Somehow, after a game like this, I dont feel too confident going into the playoffs. That could very well be just because the game just ended, and I"m disappointed they lost, but - they should have won, it would have been so much easier - the pressure is on them now.

I Still BELIEVE !!!! Lets hope they win in San Jose on Saturday afternoon.

It's down to one more victory for the Canucks now. One more Victory and they will have clinched the Northwest Division Title. They need one more victory, out of their last three games, against the Avs, the Sharks, or the Coyotes. Surely they can do that. We can't really depend on Minnesota to lose, seeing as how they have only the Oilers, and the Blues left to play.

Anyway, back to the game. The Canucks started out slow, and were down 2-0 before they decided to play. To hear Luongo talk post game though, it was all part of his plan to wake his team mates up. Whatever works for you Roberto. The Canucks scored 4 straight to win the game. Goals by Bryan Smolinski, Taylor Pyatt, Matt Cooke, and Markus Naslund.

Bring on the Avs - and pls Canucks play a full 60 minutes.

The Flames were up 3-0 before the Canucks made it on to the scoreboard. I wouldn't say they played badly, it just wasn't good enough. If they had managed to win tonite, it would have put them 5 points up on the Wild for first in the division. But they didn't win, so I suppose its a moot point.

On a brighter note, Naslund scored - a chippy messy goal, but it was a goal none the less, helped greatly by Kippresoff ( sp?) But we can only hope that it will Springboard Naslund into bigger and better things.

A loss, its not the end of the world as we know it. Let's hope they rebound against the Kings On Tuesday.

I do not even want to comment on this game. I'm very disappointed in the loss. They did not play vintage Canucks hockey. Vintage from maybe last year, or two years ago, but definitely not vintage from this year.

this will be a short summation, I didn't see the game, I didn't listen to much of the game - I was at work. :( I'm thrilled we won, and for Roberto Luongo to shut out the best team in the NHL. WOW double bonus.

What a game *

* Roberto Luongo awarded the Mark Messier award for excellence and Leadership
* Roberto Luongo now leads the NHL in wins
* goals from unlikely sources tonight, Jan Bulis opened the scoring and Tommi Santala scored the insurance goal
* a very complete game - the only thing lacking was the powerplay, but when you're winning little things like that don't really matter to me.
* First Detroit, now Nashville. This team never ceases to amaze me. I must admit I had steeled myself for a loss. So them winning exceeded my expectations, and has made me a happy Canucks fan.

three up on Minnesota and four points within first in the conference. This team has me in shock. Is it for real? or am I destined for a crushing disappointment.

The Canucks add to the oilers woes - What can i say ? Except ROBERTO LUONGO !!! He stopped 36 or 37 shots in the game tonight. Lots of shots in the game tonight. The Canucks ended up outshooting the oilers 38-37. They Pocket the two points, increase their lead on Minnesota to three, and head home to face the Predators on Wednesday night.

Edmonton opened the scoring on a goal by Raffi Torres, I didn't completely give up hope but my faith in them took a few beatings. TREVOR LINDEN ( Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin) restored my belief and faith in my team when he scored on the power play to tie the game. Yes, indeed, a powerplay goal for the Canucks. They ended up going 1- for - 4 on the Power play, and 5 -for - 5 on the penalty kill. DANIEL SEDIN ( Henrik Sedin, Mattias Ohlund ) scored the game winner about 5 minutes later. With Henrik's assists tonight he is 3 assists away from tying Andre Boudrias franchise record.

The Canucks were missing both SAMI SALO, and WILLIE MITCHELL. Both out with groin injuries. Hopefully they will both be back against Nashville.

Canucks win the season series 6-2 against the Oilers.

* 163rd consecutive sellout at GM Place

What a great game, playing against the 'best' team in the NHL up to this point, the Canucks came to play and play they did. This was a very well played game. Aside from the number of penalities that were called. Night and day comparing this game and the St. Louis game. A grand total of 2 penalities called in that game, and 17 penalities called in this game. Go figure, it was the same ref too. The Canucks improve their record to 26-5-5, collecting points in 31 of their last 36 games, since Christmas. This team could be for real - for all you who still have doubts.

Once again, the goal scoring was spread out. Pavel Datsyuk for Detroit opened the scoring in the first period, but Bryan Smolinski with an assist by Daniel Sedin, replied for the Canucks, 1 second after a powerplay expired. The Canucks didn't look back. Weathering the Detroit storm of powerplays throughout the game. Lukas Krajicek scored to make it 2-1, with assists by Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin. The next point by Daniel Sedin will give him a career best in points. Brendan Morrison scored shorthanded, with assists by Matt Cooke, and Rory Fitzpatrick, to make it 3-1 going into the third.

Going into the third i was slightly worried, being that the last few games the Canucks have let up and allowed their opponents back in the game. Not so tonight. This was a full 60 minute affair. Even losing Sami Salo to a "lower body Injury" in the third wasn't enough to deter the Canucks. Trevor Linden with assists by Matt Cooke, and Lukas Krajicek, put the icing on the cake tonite, with an empty netter, to make the score 4-1.

Canucks went 0 for 9 on the powerplay, and Detroit went 1 for 8. The Canucks are still leading the NHL in penalty killing, which is kinda hard to believe since our penalty killing hasn't been as good lately.

Roberto Luongo was good, he made the saves when he had to, and got lucky a few times with a post, and Ohlund's skate.

The Canucks win the season series against Detroit 3 - 1.
* on a side note the Canucks pepper Detroit with the most shots this season. Detroit is widely known for keeping the shots down, but tonight the Canucks managed to get 39 shots on Hasek, and thats not counting blocked shots, or missed shots.

* Canucks record improves to 43-23-6 - 92 points

*Minnesota beats Calgary in regulation, and for a few brief moments sat in first in the division, until this game was over, anyway. So the Canucks hang on to first with a one point lead on Minnesota with a game in hand, and an 8 point lead on Calgary.

Overtime win

A nice two points, gained tonite, but they just can't do it the easy way can they? I was lucky enuf to be at the game tonite, and thoroughly enjoyed myself up until the 13th minute of the third period. I dont know what happened, but for some reason, the Canucks fell apart briefly. But long enough for the Blues to tie the game and send it to Overtime. I guess in the end it didn't really matter, we won, but seriously !!! a two goal lead in the third?? Does this seem concerning at all?

* Jeff Cowan showed lots of hustle tonight. Although held off the scoresheet, he was definitely one of the more noticeable Canucks. After a particularly great shift, in which he had a great chance to open the scoring, the crowd started chanting COW-AN COW - AN it was pretty impressive
* The first game I was wearing my vintage canucks jersey. My signed Trevor Linden vintage canucks jersey, And Trevor Linden scores a 'NICE' goal. It was so funny, my friend had just finished say, "they're tired, get off the ice" then boom there's good ole reliable Trevor putting the puck in the back of the net. I LOVE IT!! yes indeed my vintage canucks jersey is good luck now !

* The Sedins were at their best tonight. Playing with Cowan of all people, but it seemed to work. Both Henrik and Daniel scored tonite. ALthough Cowan didn't get a point on any of the goals, he played a huge part in finding open ice, and making room for the Sedins to work their magic.
* Jan Bulis - need I say more. We were sitting in the I hate jan bulis section of the game tonite. It was interesting to hear the little side remarks throughout our immediate area. He made some stupid decisions with the puck tonight. Will we have to wait for 8 more games before he has another good one?
* Roberto Luongo - made the saves when he had too, I wouldn't say he was spectacular tonite, after facing only about 8-12 shots in the first two periods, he allowed two goals in the last 7 minutes of regulation. But he made enough saves to eventually allow the Canucks to win it in Overtime

* JUST WHAT THE HECK IS A PENALTY FOR A FACEOFF VIOLATION??? I have never heard of that in my life
* i think we got a little lucky with the four minute power play in the last minute of the game that went into Overtime, allowing for Daniel Sedin's heroics on the powerplay. but hey i'll go with it. The Canucks were very disciplined taking only one penalty, and that was one penalty that I had no clue why it was called.

* Roberto Luongo reached a milestones tonight. becoming only the 20th goaltender in NHL History to win 40 games in a season. He's not concerned about it however. Keep up the great work Luongo !!!!

* A calgary loss, combined with a Minnesota win, the canucks retain first place in the division with a one point lead on the Wild

Overall, I had a great time at the game, it was nice to see a win, although a win in regulation would have been preferred. But lets not squabble over details, It didn't hurt us to give St. Louis a point. We won, it was entertaining and we won. :)

* Jan Bulis opened the scoring, and Matt Cooke followed soon thereafter. The first period was great. The Canucks were up 2-0.
* I suppose after the first the Canucks thought they could coast to an easy victory against the Wild. Why they thought that I have no idea !! But the second and third period, they basically sat on their lead, and watched it diminish, until Brian Rolston scored with less than 5 minutes left in the game to tie it up.
* Minnesota gets the two points and gains some ground on us - we take home the point and maintain an one point lead on the Wild for first in the division.
* I was 'angry' at the end of this game, but since I have calmed down a bit. Them losing was just the last straw of my very boring night at work working with incompentent people. I needed them to win. I think I invest too many of my emotions into this team!!!
* one of my employees called me a "bandwagonner" at the end of this game - I don't agree. I love this team, and I want them to do well, how does calling them losers after they lose an important divisional game make me a bandwagonnner :)

* a few issues

* Where have the power play goals gone?
* Where has Naslund and Morrison gone?
* Where has Daniel Sedin gone? He hasn't scored in a bout a week now I think
* Why did the Canucks not play a full 60 minutes in an important divisional game?

I suppose the end result isn't that disheartening, we got a point anyway. I'm hoping that them losing tonite leads them to play an incredible game on thursday against the Blues, when I'm at the game. Someday I hope they learn their lesson - PLAY A FULL 60 MINUTES PLEASE? or at least play long enough so that you win the game !!

Ducks too much for Canucks

I must admit I did not see any of this game, and only listened to about 1/2 of it,( i was at work) so I have no idea if they played well or not. Judging from the RECAP it was a so so game. Questionable reffing at times. It appeared to be somewhat of a physical game. So maybe the smaller Canucks just couldn't elevate their game to meet the physicality of Anaheim?

Having Kevin Bieksa assesed 27 minutes in penalities probably didn't help either.

It was nice to see Alexandre Burrows, finally score another goal. Remember what he was like last season? down the stretch he was constantly scoring. Where are all those goals this season? And Brent Sopel got the other Vancouver goal. Their penalty killing wasn't stellar tonight, and their powerplay did nothing. I'm not sure whether it was just cuz Anaheim shut it down, or they just weren't trying. Or maybe a little bit of both. Both Markus Naslund, and Brendan Morrison didn't have a shot on goal in the game tonight. All in all, i wouldn't say it was a poor performance, but it certainly didn't get the job done
Either way, its a loss and the teams behind us who are chasing us all won. Not good news.

The Canucks have a chance to redeem themselves Tuesday night. a 4 point game, as Minnesota is in town. The Wild are only 2 points behind us, but we do have a game in hand.

* Whats with Jeff Cowan? He didn't score !!!!!
* Taylor Pyatt opened the scoring, and Henrik Sedin won it in overtime on a breakaway, in which he slammed home his own rebound, (which is good since it was his penalty that the Sharks scored on to send the game into overtime. A soft call to be sure, but it was a penalty never the less)

* Markus Naslund has been playing great lately. Its nice to see him return to form.

* an entertaining game to be sure - another two points in the standings
* 87 points in the standings and the Canucks maintain their 4 point lead on the Wild, increase their lead to 6 points on the Flames, who have a game in hand

A win combined with a Calgary loss tonite, leaves the Canucks 4 points up on both the Flames and Minnesota. The game started out great, it was 3-0 by the end of the first. The team kinda sorta let up near the end of the game, but i'll excuse them, they play tommorrow night in San Jose. 10-1-1 in their last 12, this team is on a roll. This team is unbelievable. When was the last time a Canucks team was 18 games over .500?

The Canucks even had a penalty shot awarded them in the first period. Joseph made the save on Daniel Sedin. By far the best period of hockey was the first, but that was all the Canucks needed to get the two points, and take a four point lead in their division.

Jeff Cowan, finds the back of the net, AGAIN! Like Tommy Larscheid says " perhaps we should be looking for an enforcer to protect our scorer Jeff Cowan" Unbelievable !!! The Canucks win with Dany Sabourin in net, his second NHL win.

Steve Moore vs Todd Bertuzzi

3 years ago today - a black cloud descended on the Canucks and hockey in general. I'm sure you all remember. Canucks vs Avalanche, a day we all wish we could erase from NHL history.

I must admit when it first happened, I'm ashamed to admit i sided with Bertuzzi. Not that I thought that "Steve Moore had it coming," No one deserves that. For a while, I thought he was just hyping the injury to make Bertuzzi pay. But as the years pass, and it appears that Moore is as far as ever from returning to the NHL, I take a step back, and I look at what happened.

I'm a huge Bertuzzi fan, but he did a stupid stupid thing. He knows that, and surely any person in their right mind knows he did a stupid thing. Unfortunately, his actions led to some very serious consequences for Moore. Sure, Bertuzzi had the backlash of the media and people's reactions all across the hockey world, and Whenever he is mentioned in articles this incident will always be brought up. Steve Moore has had greater consequences to deal with. He had a fractured neck - concussion, and to this day still does not know if or when he will be able to return to the NHL. steve moore still hasn't give up hope

three years down the road, and after listening to Moore's comments on 1040 this afternoon. You gotta feel for the guy. He's still not playing hockey, still hasn't been cleared to play, but there's Todd Bertuzzi signing with The Redwings, playing the game he loves. All's Steve Moore wants to do is play the game he loves, the "incident" has denied him of that.

I'm not placing all the blame on Todd Bertuzzi either. I think everyone involved should take some of the blame. What it comes down to though is, it was Todd Bertuzzi who punched Steve Moore from behind. It all could have been avoided if only - so many if onlys and they just serve to make me sound like I'm trying to deflect the blame from Bertuzzi on to the NHL. Which isn't the case at all.

Its not something I will ever forget hearing on the radio, or seeing played over and over again. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when this all transpired. My thoughts and prayers go out to Steve Moore for a full recovery, and My thoughts and prayers go out to Todd Bertuzzi, thats got to be hard to get over something like that.

I wish it had never happened !!!!

Larscheid to retire?

Tom Larscheid color commentator for the Vancouver Canucks for the past 30 years is thinking of retiring.

while there is a concerted effort by the Canucks and his current employers to persuade him otherwise, Larscheid estimates he's 98 per cent certain he'll retire at the end of this season.
It's not a decision he's reached lightly and he's certainly left himself room to wiggle out of it. But after all these years, he just feels it's time to kick back with his wife Lesley, listen to some Sinatra, sip on a Sapphire martini and watch the sun set into the Pacific.
And he's earned that right. In his 30 years on the job, Larscheid has come to be associated with the Canucks as much as any of the team's stars."

Wow, I didn't see this coming at all. I guess maybe I should have. I didn't realize he was as old as he was. Not that 67 is old ! He's just a part of the team for me. He's been color commentator for the Canucks since I became a canucks fan in the 93/94 season. He's provided many a laugh, a few rolls of the eyes. Could anyone ever really take his place? I'm sure many will try.

Have Larscheid call his last game with the Canucks be the stanley cup final, in which the Canucks win the cup !!

* Cowan, Cowan, Cowan - yes indeed, the crowd was chanting his name tonight. I Love it !
* Jeff Cowan once again, part of the story !! two goals again tonight. What's got into this guy? We could bottle it and sell it for sure.
* Jan Bulis - Was that not a sweet back pass on Jeff Cowan's second goal?
* The other goal scorers, Daniel Sedin, Kevin Bieksa, Bryan Smolinski
* Bryan Smolinski - another short - handed goal. Where was this guy earlier on in the season?? Oh right, with Chicago. So glad he's here now, he's fit in nicely so far.
* Finally a full 60 minute effort. That was nice to see !!
* Canucks kept the Tampa Bay shots to a minimum - i think the final total was 17, while they themselves managed 28
* Jan Bulis, and Brendan Morrison gave Tampa Bay the oppurtunity to try and get back in it, both taking penalities around the same time in the 3rd, but the team bailed them out.

* Wow, what can i say beyond that. As much as I wanted a Canucks win tonight, I wasn't letting myself count on it too much. I love it when they win, when i dont expect them too.

* Minnesota scored first, Sami Salo evened the score. Minnesota took the lead again. Jeff Cowan scored to tie it up, and scored again to take the lead. Late in the 3rd, Bieksa took a penalty, and the Wild scored to tie it up and get at least a point out of this one. Overtime came and went, and then the SHOOTOUT - which went something like this :

* I can't make up my mind about the shootout. Do I like them, do I hate them? I know i hate losing in a shootout !!!! it leaves you with such an empty feeling. Much more of an empty feeling than just an out right loss. Winning in a shootout - well thats awesome !!!!

* Jan Bulis had a good game !

* Once again Jeff Cowan had a noteworthy game? Who is this guy and where did he come from? Is he just a fly by nighter, or is he the real thing?? Thats two games in a row that he made an impact !!!

*Roberto Luongo apparently suffering from the flu, or flu like systems but still manages to win the shootout and the game. Although he did have a few issues with controlling his rebounds. A couple of the Wild goals were direct results of mishandled rebounds. From what Team 1040 said anyway.

* Canucks remain 1st in the division, and 3rd in the conference. 2 points clear of Calgary and Minnesota, with a game in hand on the Wild.

* Will the Canucks ever play a full 60 minutes? or do they just like to keep it interesting for us?

* Once again, another powerplay goal is allowed? should we be worried about their penalty
killing? I think thats 7 games in a row the Canucks have allowed at least one powerplay goal.

* An important divisional game, bottom line Canucks win. Next up - Tampa Bay.

WHY?

After spending an hour or so wasting time on my computer perusing other Canuck fans blogs, I've come to a conclusion. Rating my blogging about the Canucks, on a scale of 1-10, I'd give myself about a 2. haha so why do I continue to blog about the Canucks, well to put it simply - "Because I can".

Maybe my problem is I rush to finish the blog, and don't take the necessary time to say all i want to say. Or my brain is thinking faster than my fingers can type. Who knows.

I will admit however, I love it. I love the Blogging, I love the Canucks. so I will continue to torture those few faithful readers that i do have. All one or two of you.

I suppose its just my way of saying

Sidney Crosby

Fastest to 200

Sidney Crosby becomes the fastest player to reach 200 career points.5 months before he turns 20. Wayne Gretzky is the only other player to reach 200 career points as a teenager, he achieved that feat shortly before his 20th birthday. All's i can say is WOW ! I haven't seen much of Crosby being as he does play in the East, but what I have seen i've been impressed.

He already has 98 points this season, and seems to be well on his way to another over a 100 point season.

Its always nice to see a Canadian kid do well!

Keep up the good work Crosby !!!

- Who the heck is Jeff Cowan? who knows, but I'm loving him after tonight.

- Luongo wasn't 'great' tonight, but he didn't hurt them either
- Josh Green gone 4-6 weeks with a knee sprain :(
- Jan Bulis - why does everyone have such a hate on for this guy? Reading the Canucks message board through out the game i almost felt sorry for the guy. He isn't my most favourite player by any stretch of the imagination - but seriously - LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE - ITS JUST A GAME !! ( its kinda hard to remind myself of that fact sometimes though)
- Trevor Linden - where was he in the 3rd?
- Did Lukas Krycheck ( i know I spelled that wrong) play at all tonight? I heard his name once during the whole course of the game.
- Congratulations to Henrik Sedin on the birth of his son.
- Brent Sopel made a huge play in the 3rd, probably saved a Coyote goal - THANK YOU
- Whats with their top notch penalty killing? It hasn't been so top notch lately?

Overall, the Canucks win the game, they get the two points and climb back into 1st in the division, and 3rd in the conference.

Todd Bertuzzi back by end of month?

Well, it appears that Todd Bertuzzi could very well be back on ice, and playing hockey by the end of the month. While I'm happy that Bertuzzi is back and all that, i'm not too enthralled with the fact that he'll be on the opposing team from now on. If he reverts back to the Todd Bertuzzi we knew and loved, we may have our hands full with Detroit.

Apparently he showed up for practice today, and skated a little, did a few drills and stayed around to answer questions from the media. Of course he had to face a few questions about the "MOORE" incident :

"The only people who talk about and discuss it is usually media and all that," Bertuzzi said Thursday. "You know, I gotta respect that you guys have a job to do and I understand it. ... I'm the same as everyone else. I just got issues that will take care of themselves. Like I said, it's not for Detroit to deal with. It's for me to deal with. It has no bearing on anything right now with me playing here."

Well, I must say I wish him all the best and hope he can return to top BERTUZZI form.

Another should have won game, but didn't. Another missed oppurtunity to put some space between them and the Flames and Wild. It was such a boring game. I have to admit after spending the day with my 3 year old nephew, and my nephew of a month and a half - i was tired. Turning on this game - put me to sleep, and I woke up in time to hear St. Louis open the scoring. Daniel Sedin tied it a bit later, but that would be it for the Canucks. I dont know what it was, end of a long road trip, coming down from a high after the trades. Who knows. It seemed to be a pretty lacklustre effort.

Next game, on thursday against the Coyotes. I hope they win!

The Vancouver Canucks bolstered both their forward and defence corps Monday.

The Canucks landed centre Bryan Smolinski from the Chicago Blackhawks for a conditional second-round draft pick, then re-acquired defenceman Brent Sopel from the Los Angeles Kings for conditional second- and fourth-round draft picks.

Smolinski, 36, will be an unrestricted free agent July 1. He had 37 points (14-23) in 62 games with the Blackhawks this season.

Canucks GM Dave Nonis made it a priority to pick up help centre before Tuesday's trade deadline and got it in the reliable Smolinski, a two-way centre with playoff experience.

Earlier on Monday, the Canucks waived centre Marc Chouinard.

The Canucks drafted Sopel in the sixth round in '95 and he spent parts of six seasons with Vancouver before being dealt Aug. 3, 2005 to the New York Islanders for a conditional draft pick in the 2006 NHL entry draft.

The Islanders traded Sopel to the Kings on March 8, 2006 with Mark Parrish for Denis Grebeshkov, Jeff Tambellini, and a conditional 2006 draft pick.

It's official ! I hate Jan Bulis. If it wasn't for Bulis, we very likely would have won this game 1-0. Too many penalities, again. And Bulis's penality with less then 3 minutes left was a stupid one. There was no need for him to run Turco. In what should have been a win, and two points for Vancouver, they have to be satisfied with just the one point. When will this team learn? Pyatt scored for Vancouver in the second period, and with less than 3 minutes left, Vancouver looked in good shape, until Bulis started the ball rolling. Its too bad, but at least we got the point. It should have been two.

Another Canucks win, another two points. Another game, they didn't really deserve to win. Goals by Morrison, Linden and Bieksa, extended the points lead between us and Calgary. It was looking pretty scary there for a while in the third. If it wasn't for the great goaltending of luongo - what a thought? Luongo stealing a game for us? Has this ever happened before. Where would we be without Luongo!!!!!!!!!

KUDOS - to salo, Luongo was down and out, somehow, someway Salo got in the way of the puck that was headed into the empty net, and wristed it down the ice. That was a game saver if I ever saw one !

Finally, Dany Sabourin wins his first NHL game. He was nothing short of brilliant. Making the saves when he had to. A well deserved win for this guy. It was nice to see the team play hard in front of him. When I first heard that Dany Sabourin would be the starting goaltender tonight, i wondered if Vigneault knew what he was doing. Apparently he did.

The team played great. If it wasn't Bieksa coming back from a hard hit to score the Canucks opening goal, it was Naslund singlehandedly fighting off a check on a delayed penalty call, and beating Giguere on a beautiful goal. Then it was overtime - Daniel Sedin scored to win it !!! And everyone mobbed Sabourin.

The Canucks are now 4 points clear of the Calgary flames for first in the division. An important game, a statement game. A game in which their backup goaltender got his first NHL win.

It's done ! My Linden Vintage jersey is personally autographed by Mr. Trevor Linden himself ! It was a pretty eventful morning for me. Got my jersey signed, helped get a few more pictures signed. Saw all the players as they were leaving to fly to Anaheim. Chatted with a few of the players - if you can call " great game last night, can I have your autograph" - chatting. It was pretty cool seeing them up close and personal like that though. I would have to say the most approachable players, and the most friendliest were Roberto Luongo, and Willie Mitchell. Overall, they all were pretty good though.

I almost feel bad for them -

but the bottom line is - MY JERSEY IS AUTOGRAPHED ! I'm a happy canucks fan!

HOW DID WE EKE OUT THIS WIN?

Aside from the heroics of Roberto Luongo, and Morrison and Linden scoring in the shootout. How on earth did we win this game? It's quite simple, one word answer - LUONGO !!!! He is the major reason we won this game. I guess thats why he gets paid the big bucks !!!! It was scoreless for most of the game, until about 1/4 of the way thru the third period. Chicago scored - My first thought was oh no not again. This definitely was not one of the Canucks better games. Thankfully Matt Cooke scored a few minutes later, and the game went into Overtime. Jan Bulis is thanking his lucky stars that Luongo is amazing !!! The game goes to a shootout, and the Canucks with stellar goaltending by Luongo and two shootout goals by Linden and Morrison grab the two points.

The two points, giving the canucks sole possesion of first in their division - for now !!!

Finally, a game I was able to watch. Me and my adorable nephew Nolan watched the game tonight. It was time well spent. Bonding time with my month old nephew. It was a really well played game though. It was scrambly at times by both teams, Luongo played well, like he normally does. The whole team I felt played really well tonight. Thank Goodness for Salo scoring in Overtime. Did anyone else see Alex Burrows closeline Sami Salo, after he scored his goal? That was the funniest thing ever. I guess he was a little exuberant celebrating with Sami Salo. Was hilarious !!!!

Was a good game, too bad we gave Minnesota a point, but the important thing is we get the two points, and I believe we are tied for first with Calgary again. A good start to the road trip. Lets hope they keep up the good work, and keep those points coming in?

By this time tommorrow, I will be the proud owner of a Authentic vintage Trevor Linden Jersey. You will not believe how excited I am. Sure thats sounds really pathetic, after all, its only a jersey !! Its been a long time coming though, so bear with me? :D

Not only will I own an authentic vintage Trevor Linden jersey, It will be an autographed vintage Trevor Linden jersey. One of my co worker's husband has a side job dealing with autographs and memorabilia of the NHL, and the Canucks. Anyway, to make a long story short - He has offered me two options. One, he's bring my jersey to Linden and get it signed that way, or two, I could come with him, and meet and greet Trevor Linden myself.

So how exciting is that? It's pretty newsworthy for me thats for sure. I"m a little apprehensive and I'm sure I'll make a complete fool of myself,. Its not an oppurtunity you get every day. Well, I get the oppurtunity to make a fool of myself daily, and I take advantage of that. But, meeting Trevor Linden in person, now that doesn't happen every day.

I'll see how it works out - if my work schedule cooperates, - if I don't chicken out.

The 31st win of the Canucks season. The 31st win for Roberto Luongo. A coincidence? I think not. The Canucks jumped out to a 3-0 lead, and held on for the 3-2 victory. Luongo once again played strong in net. WHat a shocker. With 2 goals by Morrison, and a power play marker by Naslund, it was nice to see the scoresheet populated with someone other than a Sedin. The Canucks are now tied for first with Calgary, and Minnesota. With Edmonton, and Colorado, falling farther, and farther behind.

I was at work tonight, so I wasn't able to pay as much attention to the game as I would have liked. I was happy to hear the Canucks win the 2 points, and maintain their fight for first.

Just when I thought the Calgary Flames were going to run away with first place in the division - I found a reason to fall in love ( ever so briefly) with the Columbus BlueJackets.

Thank you Columbus - for beating the Flames in Regulation 2-1. It wasn't looking good earlier when I checked the score and saw Calgary was leading 1-0. But you ( as in the Columbus Blue Jackets) came through for me. And for that , for this brief moment in history, you have my undying love, and gratitude.

The Oppurtunity to gain first - AGAIN

Here we sit, a few hours before the game against the Blackhawks begins. Will this be a game that the Canucks regain first place for good?? Or will it be a game, that the Canucks will look back upon and kick themselves for letting the oppurtunity pass them by.

I'm going to pretend that this game did not happen. Then I dont have to acknowledge the fact that the Canucks lost yet again to a basement dweller. Why do you do this? In fact, why do i do this to myself. I was so psyched for a Canucks win. I should have known. oh well, its just a loss of two points that we didn't need in the standings. I love this team, but sometimes I hate to love them.

oh well, we might beat atlanta. :D

Granted aside from the general lack of effort, Luongo did keep it close. He only allowed one goal, i mean who couldn't score on an empty net? 1-0 sounds much better than 3-0. Still, I expected better, and frankly, I'm disappointed. I haven't had cause to say that too often this season, only about 19 or 20 times. :)

Retire # 11

Over the past few days I've heard alot of talk about the Oilers retiring #11 for Mark Messier. A few people have brought up the point - should we retire it as well? After all, Messier did play three years with us. Three non productive, waste of 6 million a year years, but he still did play?

Personally, I think if the Canucks are going to retire # 11, It should be retired as Wayne Maki, not Mark Messier. It was originally retired as Wayne Maki. The Canucks organization retiring the number after Wayne Maki, a Vancouver Canuck at the time, was diagonesed with Brain Cancer December 14, 1972, and passed away May 1, 1974. The Canucks organization promised his family that no one else would wear his number.

Fast forward a few decades, and lo and behold Mark Messier, appears in a Canucks uniform with Wayne Maki's number. Talk about a slap in the face. As if Mark Messier's time here could start off on more sour of a note. Stealing Wayne' Maki's number, Stripping Linden of his 'C', It was a sign of things to come.

I was not impressed with Messier's contributions, while a member of the Canucks. I think that 'guy' was laughing all the way to the bank when he got paid. Where was the 'great' leader we had heard so much about. More like he turned out to be the 'great dismantler'.

So, if the number 11 has to be retired - it should be re retired as #11 Wayne Maki.

I was just surfin the web, and I came across this article on Sportsnet.ca This kid is talented no doubt about it. A 19 year old kid leading the NHL in scoring. I dont think anyone has done that since Gretzky. It seems that the public is divided on him though. Some say whiner, some say just 'young' I guess time will tell.

He is only 19 years old. a 19 year old in this version of the NHL. Its pretty incredible if you ask me. But then who's asking me?

To be leading the league in scoring, while putting up with the slashing, and the no calls. That's impressive, but, is he diving for some of the calls? that is indeed the question. For now, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. A good Canadian kid, playing in the NHL at such a young age.

A battle of the Northwest. First place on the line, and the Canucks fail miserably. Taking too many stupid penalities and just not enough effort to win - Unfortunately. This was a disappointing game, and end result for me. I was so looking forward to having the bragging rights at work to all my fellow Calgary Flames fans. As luck would have it, I"ll have to grin and bear the heckling over the next few days. Better luck next time, we can only hope !!!! We'll get em next time - wont we?

Luongo made some amazing saves, its just too bad, the Canucks couldn't bury their chances. Being as outplayed as they were during portions of the game, the game was still very much winnable for them.

It was an entertaining game to be sure - Next time, the two points will be ours !

What's wrong with Naslund?

What seems to be the problem with our illustrious captain? Where is the finesse, the skill, the talent that we know he has had in the past. He just seems to lacklustre, no spark, blah - Does he miss Bertuzzi that much? Is he hurt?

Why can't he score in the shootout? Why can't he score at all? Where is his wrist shot?

Kesler out for 12-16 weeks. He is undergoing hip surgery, for what appears to be a season ending injury. What a blow to his hopes for the season. He was just starting to come on too. Rumour has it that Marc Chouinard will fit into the lineup in his place. Let's hope the Canucks won't miss his timely scoring !

I miss hockey !!! some random thoughts

It seems like ages since there's been any meaningful hockey. I know, its only been a week, but its been a LONG week. Granted the all star game was on Wednesday - but I"m not a huge fan of that. ( way to go western all stars) It just doesn't seem like hockey without defense, and body checks. Whatever, I tuned in, and was happy to see the western all stars beat the eastern all stars 12-9. All without Luongo 'tweaking' anything. That I've heard of anyway !! I was a bit disappointed in Sidney Crosby in the game, but he is only 19, and if memory, and researching stats serves me correctly, Wayne Gretzky didn't do anything in his first all star game either. So I believe there is still 'hope' for Sid the Kid. :D

The Canucks season resumes tomorrow night, against The LA Kings. Who should get the start in goal? For myself, I say Dany Sabourin. That kid played great against the Sabres, I say play him. I think he'll get his first NHL win. He does have some skill, and he's gotta want that elusive first win, the team wants to get it for him, I say its a win win situation!!!!!

At least Hockey will be back on the air !!!!!!

IT'S JUST A GAME

This edition of the Vancouver Canucks is providing genuinely new ground even for long-time fans and observers of the franchise. This is perhaps the best defensive Canucks team in history while being one of the most frustrating to watch, all at the same time. It would be easy to conclude they were just a poor hockey team if they weren't so solid defensively and didn't consistently outplay opponents. Sadly, actually putting the puck into the goal is still a requirement for success, and all the chances in the world for this group so far don't seem to be getting the job done, at least well enough to be considered a playoff team. It's around this time of year though that fans of this team should make sure they get a grip. They need to understand the one essential aspect of everything Canuck and everything in this section of the paper. It's a game, and needs to be treated that way. Some people get so frustrated they let it seep into their real world and affect their attitude and deportment. Its all right to let it affect your mood in a positive way when things are going well. That can be uplifting and a real vitamin to help people through these long, dark West Coast winters. But when your team is on a downer, the light must flash - THIS IS A GAME, put it aside. If you think you have it bad, imagined the players. For these guys its their proffession. THere is nothing they would like more than to win and in the bargain succeed personally so as to get that next contract. The frustrations they feel are many more times magnified because of the genuine financial impact on their families, immediate and extended, and no matter how fat and overpaid you think these guys might be, not winning hits them much harder. Yet even these people continually acquire perspective. When they head to Canucks Place of Children's Hospital or in the case of some real brave BC Lions players over the past few years out to places liek Purdy Pavillion at UBC to visit with older people struggling with Parkinson's and Alzheimers, they realize just how lucky they are. Sure that next goal or next tackle is their living, but its' a game. IF they couldn't play most are young enough and fit enough and many smarty enough to do any number of other jobs contributing enormously to their communities. Going out to these places helps them realize it. About five years ago Lions players started to visit Purdy and my father in law who will be spending his first Christmas with our Lord this year, was one of the residents lucky enough to be on the receiving end. He couldn't remember who of course, no matter how much I pressed him, his short term memory was such that he once burned himself three times on the same cup of coffee before we finally got a grip as to how far gone his short term memory was. But he never forgot "a lion player" came to see him. Whoever that player was, his work was outstanding and just as surely, Purdy's work on him would have been just as effective. It would have reminded him he played a 'game' for aliving, that he could walk away from his profession and still be infinitely ahead of every patient-resident in that building and that there are bigger hits in life than on any football field. If the players can get it, surely we media and fans can also come to grips with it. If the Canucks are driving you nuts, make sure that frustration doesn't get through to reality. If your NFL team loses a playoff game, stop the mourning immediate for your family and for yourself. After all, IT'S JUST A GAME

Teach the Children

This is how it happened...I just finished the household chores for the night and was preparing to go to bed, when I heard a noise in the front of the house. I opened the door to the front room and to my surprise, Santa himself stepped out from behind the Christmas tree

He placed his finger over his mouth so I would not cry out. "What are you doing?" I started to ask. The words choked up in my throat, and I saw he had tears in his eyes. His usual jolly manner was gone. Gone was the eager, boisterous soul we all know.

He then answered me with a simple statement.
"TEACH THE CHILDREN!"

I was puzzled; what did he mean? He anticipated my question, and with one quick movement brought forth a miniature toy bag from behind the tree. As I stood bewildered, Santa said,
"Teach the children! Teach them the old meaning of Christmas. The meaning that now-a-days Christmas has forgotten."

Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a FIR TREE and placed it before the mantle.
"Teach the children that the pure green color of the stately fir tree remains green all year round, depicting the everlasting hope of mankind, all the needles point heavenward, making it a symbol of man's thoughts turning toward heaven."

He again reached into his bag and pulled out a brilliant STAR.
"Teach the children that the star was the heavenly sign of promises long ago. God promised a Savior for the world, and the star was the sign of fulfillment of His promise."

He then reached into his bag and pulled out a CANDLE.
"Teach the children that the candle symbolizes that Christ is the light of the world, and when we see this great light we are reminded of He who displaces the darkness."

Once again he reached into his bag and removed a WREATH and placed it on the tree.
"Teach the children that the wreath symbolizes the real nature of love. Real love never ceases. Love is one continuous round of affection."

He then pulled from his bag an ornament of himself.
"Teach the children that I, St. Nick, ( Santa Claus ) symbolize the generosity and good will we feel during the month of December."

He then brought out a HOLLY LEAF.
"Teach the children that the holly plant represents immortality. It represents the crown of thorns worn by our Savior. The red holly represents the blood shed by Him."

Next he pulled from his bag a GIFT and said,
"Teach the children that God so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten SON..." "Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift.

"Teach the children that the wise men bowed before the Holy BABE and presented HIM with gold, frankincense and myrrh. We should always give gifts in the same spirit of the wise men."

Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a CANDY CANE and hung it on the tree.
"Teach the children that the candy cane represents the shepherds' crook. The crook on the staff helps to bring back strayed sheep to the flock. The candy cane is the symbol that we are our brother's keeper."

He reached in again and pulled out an ANGEL.
"Teach the children that it was the angels that heralded in the glorious news of the Savior's birth. The angels sang 'Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace and good will toward men."

Suddenly I heard a soft twinkling sound, and from his bag he pulled out a BELL.
"Teach the children that as the lost sheep are found by the sound of the bell, it should ring mankind to the fold. The bell symbolizes guidance and return."

Santa looked back and was pleased. He looked back at me and I saw that the twinkle was back in his eyes. He said,
"Remember, teach the children the true meaning of Christmas and do not put me in the center, for I am but a humble servant of the One that is, and I bow down to worship HIM, our LORD, our GOD."
